3D Printing vs. Acrylic, Metal & Neon – Letters Compared
3D-printed letters are especially flexible, light and affordable to customize – ideal for decor, events and indoor signage. Acrylic, metal and neon each have their own strengths in looks, outdoor durability and glow. The right choice depends on budget, location and desired effect.
3D printing: flexible, light, custom
3D-printed letters can be freely designed in font, size, depth and colour – even in small quantities and without expensive tooling. They're light, portable and ideal for decor, gifts, events and indoor signage. The configurator shows the result instantly in 3D.
Acrylic & metal: premium and robust
Acrylic letters look glossy and modern, metal letters especially premium and durable – also outdoors. But they're usually heavier, pricier and less flexible to customize than 3D printing.
Neon & illuminated letters
Illuminated and neon letters are the first choice where the glow effect matters most (bar, shop window, stage). They're more complex and costly; for pure shape and colour without lighting, 3D printing is far cheaper.
When to use which?
Decor, gifts, events, indoor signage, small runs, tight budget: 3D printing. High gloss or lasting outdoor signage: acrylic/metal. Glow effect in focus: neon/illuminated.
Frequently asked questions
Are 3D-printed letters cheaper than acrylic or metal?
For custom designs and small quantities, 3D-printed letters are usually cheaper, with no expensive tooling or material costs. From €4.99 per letter with us.
Are 3D letters as durable as metal?
Indoors they're very durable. Metal is tougher for lasting outdoor use; for outdoors we recommend weatherproof materials.
Can 3D letters be illuminated?
Plain 3D-printed letters aren't illuminated by default. For real glow, neon/LED letters are intended; 3D printing wins on shape, colour and price.
